Happy new year to all! 2016 is finally here — and doesn’t it have a nice ring to it?
For me, 2016 carries a whole lot of meaning. It’s one that I’ve waited a long time for as I will be graduating from the University of Texas (WHAT) in December! Despite how thrilled I am to be almost done, I can’t help but reflect on how much change and growth has occurred within me over the past 4 years. College has been a long, bumpy and exciting ride full of twists and turns and I can’t believe the end is in sight.
In sight doesn’t mean around the corner though. As far as life after school goes, I still have a lot to figure out (similar to most young twenty-somethings). There will be challenges and decisions to make as well as heaps of change and exhilarating experiences. But still having two semesters left, I have a chunk of what I call “waiting time”. Waiting on hearing back from companies for internships or jobs, waiting to be done with classes and studying, waiting to know where I’ll be living, waiting to join The Real World… It can be a somewhat daunting, especially for someone like me who enjoys having a set plan of action. And because of this, I’ve created a personal motif for 2016 to set my mind on higher things than worry or doubt about unknown circumstances.
Embracing the unknown, taking time to be in the moment, and trusting that what’s meant to be will be no matter what. I don’t like waiting to know what will happen next — but with patience, at least I’ll know I’m waiting for something worthwhile.
I encourage y’all to think about what your year brings and if there could be a theme you want to emphasize in your life for the time ahead. Focusing on patience and faith has really helped me get in the right mindset for what I’m expecting will be a thrilling 2016. Happy new year loves!
