Today I want to talk about something somewhat personal — my skin. I have spent years and years managing my sensitive skin all over my body, literally since I was a young girl, and I think I’ve finally got it figured out. Over the years my dermatologist and I have discovered the absolute best products for sensitive normal to dry skin and it’s too good not to share. If only someone had created this list 10 years ago!
There are so many different options for this, making it even easier for you to find one you like and that fits your price range. My absolute favorite face wash is Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Cleanser because it seriously does everything: removes makeup (I’m even talking waterproof mascara), cleans out pores and hydrates the skin in a gentle manner. It is sort of pricy though, so if you’re looking for something more inexpensive I would recommend the Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser. It’s oil free and feels amazingly cooling but the cream formula keeps it from being drying.
For the sonic facial cleanser, I use my Clarisonic Mia 1 once every day with a dime size amount of cream cleanser (currently using Neutrogena Deep Clean since I ran out of Purity a few months back). I love the brand Clarisonic because you can purchase brush heads separately and they make one specially for sensitive skin; the bristles feel softer and they work just as well as the deep cleaning brush heads. As far as other brands, I’ve seen other skincare/beauty bloggers talk positively about the Michael Todd Soniclear and I think Neutrogena makes one? What have y’all heard and what do you use?
Obsessed with this stuff! The best facial moisturizer out there. We all know we’re supposed to moisturize daily, but it can be difficult if your skin reacts to products like mine does (itchy, red, bumps). All of CeraVe’s lotions are fragrance free and this moisturizer has never irritated my skin because it’s so lightweight. I apply about a dime size to my face every night before bed.
I was actually bummed when my dermatologist recommended this unscented body wash because I love fresh scents, but Dove Sensitive Skin smells amazing and lasts all day. The scent is more soapy and clean rather than lavender/etc. but I really like it and my skin does as well! (I think this is where I started getting the hint about only using unscented products 😉 )
Another sensitive skincare fav — this lotion contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid to restore and maintain skin’s natural protective barrier. It also lasts all day and keeps skin super soft and hydrated. This stuff works best if applied immediately after a shower to lock in extra moisture.
Another moment of disappointment: discovering my skin cannot handle heavy scented fabric softeners. Goodbye, Clean Breeze… But hello to no longer being itchy. Downy’s Free & Gentle is perfume-free and dye-free keeping your skin free from irritation. This item is major key for sensitive skin.
As my dermatologist said, you can never over-do moisturizing (unless you’re using the wrong products lol). Bottom line: keep skin hydrated and use unscented products!
What else have y’all found that works for sensitive skin? I’m always open to trying new things!
