Happy 2017! I have to admit my internal calendar sort of stopped at the end of 2016. Last year was one for the books — traveling in Europe, interning in New York City and finally graduating from The University of Texas. When exciting things are ahead you don’t really look past them. Now that we are in the year of 2017, I’m faced with the reality that life (particularly my own) goes on, and here we are!
Not to say that I’m not excited for what 2017 holds. It’s the first year that I feel prepared for. I have my college degree, I’m starting a job in the heart of downtown Austin, I’m buying a couch next week (#adulthood)… I generally feel more confident about what’s in store. College has that thrill of a fresh start — I remember each semester feeling completely different from the one before or after. While it’s relaxing to have a set schedule, I don’t want to forget the exhilaration of changing, learning and growing that I experienced in college. With that in mind, I developed my New Year’s Resolutions for 2017!
1. Start and finish the Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide.
I know BBG is probably the most cult-like exercise regimen for women around the world, but I know it works (I did it for a few months last year and have you seen Kayla’s Instagram?) and I’m ready to fully commit. I love that it turns working out into a lifestyle because there’s something to do five days a week. Also, the results are completely legit. Actually, basically the reason I want to do this is because my little sister turns 21 in June and we’re going to Vegas and I need to get it together in under 6 months.
2. Read 12 books.
My family always talks about our individual resolutions on New Year’s Day, after we eat black-eyed peas and all that stuff for good luck/whatever. Coincidentally, my Dad and I both wanted to read (a bunch more) in 2017. We got the family on board and now have a family book club for this year — one each month! I’ll post the reading list once we have it in case any of y’all are interested.
(So far we’ve got The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway for January!)
3. Have an open mind.
I’m not going to lie, I thought for sure I’d be moving to New York right after graduation. I could practically touch the Empire State Building in my sleep! It turns out something better was in my backyard of downtown Austin, Texas — and I’m glad I have family and friends who helped me open my mind to possibilities outside of NYC. I also think it’s especially important to exercise an open mind during change and transition periods. I just want to be open to whatever this year has to offer!
Last year I did the word of the year thing (check it out here!) for 2016. I liked having an idea/concept to go back to no matter what was going on throughout the year and I think I might do it again! What do y’all think? And what are y’all’s 2017 resolutions? I always love hearing about people’s goals and plans so please please leave them in the comments!!
Hope you all had a merry Christmas and a wonderful start to 2017! Many exciting things ahead for us all, I’m sure 🙂
